Optional Follow-Up Phase

We need a group of men to answer some follow-up questions based on their answers in the study’s initial questionnaire. Participation in the follow-up process is optional and does not affect your right to participate in the first part of the study. Our follow-up inquiry contains two components:

  • You will review the researcher’s written synthesis of your key responses to the first questionnaire and identify any points that require correction or elaboration.

  • You will answer several additional open-ended questions that probe more deeply into important points you made in your first questionnaire and explore your perspective on comparative points made by other men.

If you agree to participate in the follow up process, you will have to provide an email address we can use to contact you. Providing an email address partially compromises your full anonymity. However, only the researcher will see your email address, and it will be erased from the study’s records immediately after the follow-up process is complete.

If you agree to participate in the follow up process, you will have two options for providing your responses.

Complete a Second Online Questionnaire

About two weeks after you complete the initial questionnaire:

  • We will email you a link to a second online questionnaire.

  • You use the link to access and complete the questionnaire.

Sending you a link to the second questionnaire allows us to connect the second questionnaire to your first questionnaire. It should take approximately 45 minutes to an hour to complete the questionnaire, depending on the level of detail you provide.

Participate in a Confidential Zoom Interview

If you agree to participate in an interview, you will see the researcher onscreen, but he will not see you. To protect your privacy, your camera will be automatically turned off and a pseudo name will appear for your name onscreen.

About a week after you complete the initial questionnaire:

  • We will email you a participant code and a link to our online interview scheduler.

  • You use the online scheduler to select an interview date and time that works for you. You enter the participant code (not your name) in the scheduler to reserve your interview time.

  • We will email you a Zoom link and password for the interview. The password ensures that only you can join the Zoom meeting.

We have designed the interview process to protect your privacy. For a full discussion of these protections, click the Informed Consent button. It should take approximately 45 minutes to an hour to complete the interview, but you should plan for 90 minutes in case you have questions for the researcher before or after the interview.
