Future Projects

From the Desk of Dr Yeats

My critical priorities were set by the men who participated in our near sexless marriage study.

Several participants in the study stumbled into a turn-around of their sexual relationship after years of confusion and frustration. They are eager to share their journey with other Christian men. These turn-around profiles will provide more in-depth detail about the stories of several men, using their own words from the study’s questionnaires and interviews as supplemented by my post-study insights.

TURN-AROUND PROFILES

Many men in the study expressed uncertainty or anxiety about their masturbation practices, wondering what was “normal” and whether masturbation is a sin. Some men even felt masturbation combined with sexual fantasy was essentially an unforgiveable sin. This monograph will address research into masturbation, perspectives on masturbation as provided by participants in our near sexless marriage study, and my perspective for pastoral counselors as well as religiously conservation Christian men struggling with sexual dissatisfaction. This monograph will also be structured as a discussion guide for a men’s study group.

MASTURBATION MONOGRAPH

Men who are having minimal to no sex with their wives may be experiencing sexual desire discrepancy, low sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, severe relationship distress, or some other relationship problem. This website will eventually have information applicable to these four scenarios. I hope to embed a simple set of automated questions into the topics page of this website to help men identify website content and resources that could apply to their situation. These questions will point to potentially relevant self-help content and will not be equivalent to or intended to substitute for a diagnosis by a competent licensed professional.

With regard to longer-term goals:

The men who participated in our study almost unanimously agreed our congregations need to facilitate open, honest, and practical discussions of male sexual desire and sexual problems in marriage. My hope is the study’s final report will begin these discussions. However, a specific discussion guide for use as part of a men’s ministry as well as individual self-study could be an invaluable tool. My goal is to develop a user-friendly discussion guide that combines the voices of the men who participated in our study along with psycho-spiritual research into a format useful to church leaders, religious educators, and small group leaders.
